ROSEVILLE (WWJ) - All lanes of westbound I-94 at I-696 have reopened after a fatal crash involving an overturned semi.

Michigan State Police investigated for around five hours Thursday, following the incident at around 1:30 p.m.

According to MSP First Lt. Mike Shaw, a semi truck crashed into a car on I-94 at 10 Mile Road in Roseville, killing a female driver. The semi then rolled over, blocking all westbound lanes.

It happened, Shaw said, as drivers were hitting the brakes in a construction zone.

A preliminary investigation found that the semi driver was unable to stop in time as traffic slowed, rear-ending a Ford Taurus. That caused the semi to flip over, landing on a Chrysler minivan and then striking a Cadillac SUV.

Shaw said the woman in the Taurus was killed instantly.

"The semi truck landed flat right on the mini van, but miraculously the female driver in that vehicle had some minor bumps and bruises," Shaw added. "There's minor bumps and bruises to the individual that's in the Cadillac." At least two injured people were taken to local hospitals to be checked out.

The name of the victim was not immediately released.
