10-Year-Old Charged After Bringing Loaded Gun To Elementary School

December 06, 2018 - 12:39 pm

DETROIT (WWJ) - A 10-year-old Detroit boy is facing criminal charges after allegedly bringing a loaded gun to school.

The Wayne County Prosecutor's office says the Spain Middle School student has been charged as a juvenile with carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a weapon in a weapon-free school zone.

A classmate saw the gun Wednesday afternoon and told school authorities the boy was hiding it in his backpack.

The gun was confiscated without incident. No one was hurt.

Parents and guardians received a robocall Wednesday alerting them of the incident -- saying the gun was loaded with a single bullet. The call added that there was no evidence the gun was to be used at school.

The boy is expected to face a judge Thursday afternoon.

The school is located in the 3700 block of Beaubien, near Mack Avenue and I-75.
