WIXOM, Mich. (WWJ) -- Police are searching for a suspect in connection to the death of a teenage boy who was hit and killed by a car in Wixom Monday evening.

Fourteen-year-old Justin Lee was hit by a vehicle while riding a bike in the area of Potter and Wixom Roads at around 6 p.m. The driver took off.

Police Chief Ron Moore tells WWJ they were called to the scene for a car accident, and when they arrived -- found Lee in very serious condition. He was taken to the hospital where he later died.

Moore says they located the suspect's vehicle nearby in Commerce Township, but the suspect is still at large. They are now working with the Oakland County Sheriff's Department to find that driver.

“This is our highest priority," Moore said. "I’ve got detectives actively working this case, trying to find the driver."

Witnesses told police it was a white male that was driving the vehicle.

“We have a vehicle and that certainly is going to go a long way towards finding the driver," Moore said. "But what we have as of right now is a white male driver."

Moore says the department called upon the Oakland County Sheriff's Office's accident reconstruction crew to try and piece together the scene of the accident to see what exactly happened, and whether than can create any more leads in the investigation.

The Walled Lake Consolidated School District has arranged for grief counseling at Lee's school.
