(WWJ) A motocross race in Michigan's Thumb area turned tragic this weekend when a 15-year-old boy was  killed.

The crash happened at 4 p.m. Saturday at Baja Acres in Tuscola County’s Arbela Township.

On their Facebook page, Tuscola County Sheriff’s Office deputies said they overheard radio traffic from ambulance personnel asking for help with CPR at the racetrack.

“The rider somehow went down and became separated from the dirt bike and the riders behind could not avoid striking him,” reads the county sheriff’s office statement. “CPR was performed by medical staff on scene and the Lifenet helicopter was dispatched. Attempts to save the rider were unsuccessful.”

Reaction from others at the race, and on the circuit was swift.

The victim was reportedly from Indiana.

"Much love and prayers from our Moto Family to all the friends and family," Kathryn Mordecai Davis wrote.

Another wrote, "The track staff and EMT’s were amazing. Thank you for praying with us. Thank you for consoling when you were broken right beside this family. You are loved. And appreciated."
