September 12, 2018 - 12:40 pm

INDEPENDENCE TWP. (WWJ) - A northern Oakland County teen suffered a serious head injury, according to investigators, when she fell off the hood of a moving vehicle.

Oakland County Sheriff's Office said the incident -- involving two 16-year-old Independence Township girls -- happened at around Monday, in the 6000 block of Foxfire Circle in Independence Township, near Clarkston.

One of the girl's had pulled into the other's driveway to drop the her off after school, at around 3:30 p.m. The victim got out of the car, investigators said, but then for some reason jumped onto the hood of the vehicle while the driver was backing out.

The driver continued approximately one hundred feet down the roadway while the victim was still hanging onto the hood, according to the sheriff's office. The victim then lost her grip, fell off, and struck the back of her head on the pavement.

She was taken by EMS to McLaren Hospital - Oakland for treatment of head trauma and was listed in serious condition.

It's unclear at this time why the teen jumped onto the vehicle, or if any charges are expected in connection with this case as an investigation continues.

The teens' names were not released.
