March 14, 2019 - 5:46 pm

DETROIT (WWJ) - A young woman is hospitalized after she was pulled from the icy Detroit River.

According to Detroit police, the 18-year-old jumped from the MacArthur Bridge, which connects Jefferson Avenue to Belle Isle, just before at around 3:45 p.m. Thursday.

The Detroit police Harbor Master quickly came to the rescue, tossing the woman a flotation device. She was able to grab a hold, police said, and was pulled to safety.

The woman, who was only in the water for about five or six minutes, was last reported in stable condition.

The U.S. Coast Guard responded to the scene, along with the Detroit police divers, but they weren't needed.

It's unclear why the woman went into the water. No further details were released.

Police note that Harbor Master keeps boats in the river year-round
