2 Arrested, Officer Hurt In Warren To Detroit Police Chase Crash

DETROIT (WWJ) - A police officer was injured and two arrests were made after a chase from Warren that ended in a crash in Detroit.

According to police, the incident unfolded at around 4:15 a.m. Monday in the are of 9 Mile Road and Ryan Road, where Warren officers spotted two "suspicious vehicles" cruising a neighborhood.

When police turned on their lights to make a traffic stop, both SUVs sped away, headed south into Detroit.

Police followed, until the two suspect vehicles crashed into each other in the area of 7 Mile Road and Keystone Street, west of Mound Road, on the city's east side. WWJ's Charlie Langton reports that one of the vehicles spun out, then crashing into a tree and building, while the other sped away.

Two people who were in the crashed vehicle were taken into custody; one of them armed with a handgun, according to police. Both had minor injuries and were taken to a local hospital. 

Police said one of the arresting officers suffered an injury to his hand and was also taken to the hospital. The injury was described as non-life threatening. 

A K9 team was called into search for ths second suspect vehicle, believed to be a black Chevy Tahoe, but police were not immediately able to locate it.

No details about possible charges and no names have been released as an investigation continues.
