2 Arrested In Series Of Smash-And-Grab Robberies

DETROIT (WWJ) - Police investigating a string of smash-and-grab robberies in metro Detroit may have caught a break with two arrests Wednesday morning on the east side.

Officials say a task force was working in the area of Dickerson and August, off Gratiot near McNichols, when two suspects spotted officers and tried to get away. The suspects lost control of their pickup truck, which was reported stolen, slammed into a telephone pole and then took off on foot.

Police were able to catch one of the suspects right away, and a K-9 unit was used to track the other suspect. Both were taken into custody without further incident.

Investigators believe the suspects are connected to a series of smash-and-grab robberies reported at liquor stores, pharmacies and gas stations around the Detroit area.
