2 Charged In Death Of Baby Girl Who Drowned In Standing Water

July 16, 2018 - 5:44 pm

DETROIT (WWJ) - Two people have been charged in the death of a infant girl who drowned in standing water and sewage in Detroit.

The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office on Monday announced the case against the child's 26-year-old mother, Dasiah Nichelle Jordan, and an acquaintance, 28-year-old Tonya Desirae Peterson, both of Detroit.

According to investigators, 11-month-old Ca'Mya Davis was unattended the night of July 6 as she roamed around Peterson's home, in the 15000 block of Ferguson, fell through the hole in a bedroom floor and drowned in standing water and sewage in the basement. EMS responded to a 911 call report that the child was not breathing, and Ca'Mya was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Prosecutors allege that Jordan left the baby at the home while visiting friends, even though both Jordan and Peterson were aware of the "hazardous and unsafe condition in the bedroom."

Both women have been charged with second degree child abuse and manslaughter, and are scheduled to be arraigned in 36th District Court on Tuesday/
