DETROIT (WWJ) -- The search is on for a pair of men who Detroit police say are responsible for a fatal shooting on the city's west side earlier this month.

Police say at approximately 9 p.m. on Aug. 8, three male victims -- two 28-year-olds and a 44-year-old -- were sitting inside a black Chevy Impala in the 19300 block of Westmoreland Road, just nort of 7 Mile Road and east of Evergreen. Police say a dark colored Jeep Cherokee approached them and someone inside the Jeep fired shots at the victims' car.

As the victims attempted to drive away, the suspects followed them and fired several more shots at the victims, causing the driver of the Impala to lose control and strike a telephone pole in the 17800 block of 7 Mile.

One of the victims was pronounced dead at the scene and the other two victims suffered gunshot wounds to the body. It is unclear what led to the shooting or if the suspects had prior contact with the victims.

Just minutes later, at around 9:06 p.m., a Project Green Light camera at a Citgo gas station in the 13600 block of McNichols Road captured the suspects pulling up to a gas pump in the Jeep.

One suspect got out of the vehicle and went inside the gas station, while the driver was seen pumping gas into the vehicle and then into a plastic bottle, before driving off.

Less than an hour later the Jeep was found all the way on the other side of the city. It was discovered burned along Glenwood Street, between Brock Avenue and Hayes Street -- in the area of 7 Mile and Morang Avenue. The suspects presumably used the gasoline from the bottle to set the vehicle on fire.

Police are asking for the public's help in identifying and locating the suspects. The passenger and suspected shooter is described as a black male in his early 20s with medium brown complexion and a slim build. He was last seen wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt with a Nike logo on the back and dark jeans.

The driver of the Jeep is described as a black male, unknown age, with medium brown complexion and a medium-to-stocky build. He was wearing a dark hooded Puma sweatshirt with dark shorts and white shoes.

Anyone who recognizes the suspects, knows of their whereabouts or otherwise has any information about the shooting is asked to call the Detroit Police Department's Homicide Unit at  (313) 596-2260 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-Speak Up.
