DETROIT (WWJ) - A 20-year-old Detroit man has been charged with second degree murder in the beating death of his 23-year-old girlfriend.

According to the Wayne County Prosecutior's Office, Tykese Keaton-Baldwin was arraigned in 36th District Court Tuesday in connection with the killing of Brittany Collett of Clearwater, Florida, over the weekend in Detroit.

Police were dispatched to a home on Prairie Street, in the area of Livernois and Outer Driver, shortly before 5:30 a.m. Saturday, to find Collett lying face down on the lawn with blood around her head. She was taken by EMS to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.

An autopsy found she died as a result of blunt force trauma, prosecutors said, and Keaton-Baldwin was arrested. Further details about the case, including the circumstances leading up to the young woman's death, were not immediately released.

Keaton-Baldwin is being held without bond in the Wayne County Jail awaiting his next court appearance, a probable cause conference, scheduled for August 24.
