3 Charged In Retaliation Killing Of Harper Woods Carjacking Victim

October 20, 2018 - 1:21 pm

DETROIT (WWJ) - Three people have been charged with murder in the shooting of a Detroit woman who was a key witness in a carjacking case.

The Wayne County Prosecutor's office charged Jah-Lana Streeter, 23, Kenneth Dixon, 26, and Corey Holmes, 39, with several charges, including first-degree murder and witness intimidation, in the death of 32-year old Starkisha Thompson.

Thompson was shot multiple times and died in front of her home on October 9, six days after testifying against Dixon, who allegedly carjacked Thompson and her boyfriend at a gas station in Harper Woods.

Detroit Police Chief James Craig called Thompson a hero earlier this week because she testified instead of keeping silent.

"Many times our victims know they're putting their own safety at risk. But she felt obligated to identify and testify against this individual because she knew it may save someone else's life," Craig said. "She knew by doing that, it helps make our city safer. So for that, she's an American hero."

Police say Streeter is Dixon's girlfriend and Holmes is an ex-con who met Dixon in prison. Craig said the pair tried to buy Thompson's silence, but she testified instead.

Other charges against Streeter, Dixon and Holmes include conspiracy to commit murder and retaliating against a witness. Holmes is also charged with felon in possession and three counts of felony firearm.

Streeter was arraigned Friday and ordered held in jail before a probable cause conference on Oct. 29. Dixon and Holmes are expected to be arraigned this weekend.

Dixon is also facing a list felony charges in connection with the carjacking that could land him behind bars for the rest of his life. He remains jailed without bond.
