4 People Injured, 3 Critically, In M-59 Accident

WATERFORD (WWJ) - Authorities say four people have been hurt in an accident along M-59 in Waterford Township.

The crash happened Friday morning along eastbound M-59, Highland Road, between Crescent Lake Road and Pontiac Lake Road. 

According to Waterford Township police, a witnesse saw a 2007 Jeep Compass traveling westbound on Highland Road, west of Pontiac Lake Road, cross over into oncoming traffic. It sideswiped a 2009 Ford pickup before striking a 2017 Chrysler 300 head-on. The Chrysler 300 then struck a 2011 Ford Flex that was also traveling eastbound on Highland.

Police said the driver of Compass, a 28-year-old Pontiac man, and his 32-year-old passenger, also a Pontiac resident, along with the driver of the Chrysler 300, a 62-year-old White Lake man, all had to be extricated by first responders using the Jaws of Life.

All three were transported to local hospitals in critical condition. The driver of the Ford Flex, a 47-year-old White Lake woman, was taken to the hospital in serious condition. The driver of the pickup was not hurt. 

Other details -- including the names of those involved -- were not immediately released.

M-59 was shut down at the scene following the crash, but has since reopened. As an invesitgation continues, police are working to determine if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the accident, or if seatbelts were worn.
