5-Year-Old Killed, Mom Injured In Shooting During Home Invasion

DETROIT (WWJ) - Police are investigating a double shooting on Detroit's northwest side that left a 5-year-old girl dead. 

According to authorities, the victims were shot Thursday night during a home invasion in the 19000 block of Lyndon Street near Evergreen Road.

Someone broke into the home while the girl and her 21-year-old mother were lying in bed. Both were struck by gunfire and taken to Sinai-Grace Hospital.

The girl died from her injuries; the woman was last reported in critical condition.

Several other people were in the the house at the time, although they were not injured. 

Early Friday morning, a man believed to be a suspect in the shooting was shot and killed by police, who were attempting to serve a search warrant at a home on Evergreen near Westfield.
