550K Ford Vehicles Recalled Due To Potential Rollaway Risk

July 18, 2018 - 10:09 am

DETROIT (WWJ) - Ford Motor Co. is recalling more than half-a-million Fusions and Escapes for a potential rollaway risk

According to the company, there's a bushing on the shifter cable in these vehicles that can detach over time. That could lead to a driver thinking a vehicle is in park when it isn't -- and that, Ford said, could lead to "unintended vehicle movement."

Drivers of a variety of Fusions and Escapes from the 2013 to 2016 model years are instructed to use their parking brakes as a backup until dealers can replace the shifter cable bushing at no cost to the customers.

The recall involves nearly 550,000 cars and SUVs in North America, including more than 500,000 in the U.S and its territories, and 36,000 in Canada.

The following vehicle are affected:

2014 Ford Fusion vehicles built at Flat Rock Assembly Plant between June 18, 2013 and Sept. 15, 2013

2014-16 Ford Fusion vehicles built at Flat Rock Assembly Plant between June 2, 2014 and Aug. 31, 2015
