(WWJ) A Go Fund Me page has been set up to pay for the funeral of an 8-year-old girl who was killed tragically when she tried to perform a good deed in Grand Rapids, Mich.

Nevaeh Alston was hit and killed on Bridge Street when she tried crossing the road to feed the homeless who stay near Ah-Nab-Awen Park, according to WOODTV

The crash happened around 9 p.m. on Bridge Street NW in front of Bridgewater Place. She was hit by a vehicle traveling eastbound between Scribner Avenue and the Grand River bridge.

Alcohol and excessive speed are not suspected as a cause of the crash, police said.

Her mother's cousin set up the request for funds in honor of Nevaeh, writing "Her entire family is completely heartbroken with grief."

"She is loved dearly by so many and had such a giving, loving heart. She loved helping others, and always had a big smile on her face," Brittany Paas wrote on the Go Fund Me. The family is trying to raise $7,500.
