INDEPENDENCE TWP. (WWJ) - An 83-year-old man in a wheelchair who was struck by a hit-and-run driver outside of a healthcare facility in Oakland County last month has died.

The Sheriff's Office says Albert Orsette died Monday from injuries he received in the crash, which happened March 14 outside of the Clarkston Specialty Healthcare Center on Clintonville Road just south of I-75 in Independence Township.

Police say Orsette's wheelchair had become stuck in the roadway and a 29-year-old employee was attempting to assist him back inside the facility when both were struck by a passing vehicle. The suspect never stopped and continued northbound on Clintonville Road after the collision.

The suspect vehicle is described as a black Chevrolet Monte Carlo with some type of red writing on the front. Police say the vehicle should have damage to the front passenger side and possibly a faulty rear tail light.

The employee was released from the hospital and is still recovering from her injuries.

A $1,000 reward is being offered for information in the case.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or has any other information is asked to contact the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office tip line at 1-888-TURN-1-IN, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
