Amtrak Train Strikes, Kills Man In Ann Arbor

June 11, 2018 - 6:46 pm

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (WWJ) -- A man was struck and killed by an Amtrak train Monday in Ann Arbor Township, shortly after 1 p.m.

An unidentified man reportedly stepped in front of Amtrak train #350 in the area of Dixboro Road, just east of U.S. 23. An investigation is ongoing.

Authorities are describing the incident as a possible suicide.

The train, which was traveling near 80 mph, was on it's daily route from Chicago to Detroit to Pontiac when the incident occurred. No passengers were injured during the incident, but major delays were caused.

Amtrak spokesman Marc Magliari said the man was trespassing on railroad property.

Magliari says the five-hour delay has led to schedule change for passengers planning an evening trip to Chicago.

The train was scheduled to turn around and head back to Chicago as train #355 once it reached Pontiac, but the trip back west will instead originate in Detroit.

"We’ll be chartering buses to take people between Pontiac and Detroit, including Royal Oak and Troy," Magliari said.
