Andiamo In Royal Oak Closes After 19 Years

ROYAL OAK, Mich. (WWJ) -- After 19 years of operation on Main Street in Royal Oak, Andiamo Trattoria has closed its doors.

The Italian restaurant announced on its Facebook page Saturday that the Royal Oak location was closing, but seven other area locations are remaining open.

The booming dining scenes in nearby Ferndale and downtown Detroit have hurt the Royal Oak location's business in recent months, Andiamo Group president and CEO Joe Vicari told the Detroit Free Press Saturday.

The last day of business at the Royal Oak location was Friday night.

According to the Free Press, along with being hurt by nearby restaurants, the Royal Oak location is losing the parking lot behind the building, which will take away a lot of business as well.

The restaurant reportedly attempted to meet with the building's landlord to negotiate rent relief amid the parking changes, but they were unable to do so.

The eight other Michigan Andiamo locations include Bloomfield Township, Clarkson, Dearboarn, Detroit Riverfront, Fenton, Livonia, Sterling Heights and Warren. There are also two out-of-state locations.
