DETROIT (WWJ) - Credible allegations of sexual abuse against a priest within the metro Detroit area have been reported to law enforcement according to a release by the Archdiocese of Detroit.

The statement says that 83-year-old Robert Witkowski, a retired priest, has been added to the archdiocese's list of clergy credibly accused of abuse. The allegations date back to his early years of his ministry.

It is not known when the allegations were first made to anyone within any of the eight churches in and around Detroit he has worked since 1961.

Anyone who has been abused should contact civil authorities. Individuals may also call the Archdiocese’s Victim Assistance Line at (866) 343-8055 or visit protect.aod.org. This website also contains information on removed clergy, reporting protocols, archdiocesan policies and practices.
