Archdiocese: Sex Abuse Claims Against Late Priest Are Credible

DETROIT (WWJ) - The Archdiocese of Detroit says allegations of sex abuse of minors brought against a long time priest who died 25-years ago are credible.

The Archciocesan Board of Review considered the claims against Monsignor Arthur Karey, who died in 1993. The Archdiocese says the sex abuse was reported decades after Karey's death.

He was a pastor at St. Joseph Church in Lake Orion, and Christ the King and St. Aloysius in Detroit. He also served at St. Francis Xavier in Ecorse, and St. Lawrence and St. John the Evangelist in Detroit.

The Archdiocese says there are no deadlines or time limits on reporting sexual abuse of children by priests or other church personnel. Anyone who believes they were victimized by Karey is asked to contact a victim assistance coordinator at 866-343-8055.
