Arson Squad Looking Into Cause Of Detroit House Fire

May 23, 2018 - 8:13 am

DETROIT (WWJ) - Arson investigators are trying to determine what caused a house on Detroit's west side to go up in flames.

The fire broke out early Wednesday morning at a home on Parkside Street, off Puritan Avenue near Livernois Avenue.

Firefighters responded to the scene and quickly knocked down the flames, but not before the damage was done.

"It's an unoccupied house. Multiple locations were set and we had a lot of holes in the floor. Very dangerous for the firemen," Battalion 8 Chief Michael Jefferson told WWJ's Mike Campbell. "Once again, we do what we do and use extreme caution, put the fire out, everybody goes home safe."

Nextdoor neighbor Paulette Fajrti said a family who was living in the home just recently moved.

"The people moved out earlier this week and they told me, my neighbors told me that there was someone here earlier today and yesterday working on the house or in the house. It could have even still been the people that lived here," she said.

No injuries were reported.

The Detroit arson squad is now investigating the cause.
