Authorities: Michigan Teen On Dirt Bike Killed In Crash With SUV

July 10, 2018 - 10:07 am

LONDON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WWJ) - A 14-year-old boy has died after the dirt bike he was riding was struck by an SUV in Monroe County.

According to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, Cole Ison of Maybee was on a green Kawasaki KX60 dirt bike, heading westbound on Milan-Oakville Road in London Township, at around 1:30 p.m. Monday, about 35 miles southwest of Detroit. When Ison attempted to turn left onto Borso Drive, he was hit by an eastbound Ford Escape.

The teen was pronounced dead at the scene.

The sheriff's office said in a news release that the driver of the Escape, a 45-year-old Maybee man, refused medical treatment.

Ison was wearing a helmet, according to sheriff's officials, and neither speed nor alcohol appear to be factors in the crash.

It's unclear if any charges will be filed, as an investigation continues.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or who has any information is asked to call sheriff's detectives at 734-240-7756.
