Tacos for everyone!

(WWJ) As the temperatures soar this week -- hitting as high as 107 degrees on Friday, there are ways to beat the heat by eating certain foods -- and avoiding others.

Blue Cross Blue Shield dietitian Grace Derocha says you may be surprised by the kinds of foods that will cool you down.

"It seems ironic and counter intuitive but spicy foods technically can actually help cool your body down," Derocha said. "What happens is we increase blood circulation. We might sweat a little bit, but that sweating actually reduces the temperature of our body, especially during this heat."

What does that mean? Tacos for everyone!

But watch what you drink with it or how you follow it up with dessert.

On the other hand -- Derocha says consuming cold food -- like ice cream, iced tea or any ice-cold beverage may cause a sudden drop in the body's core temperature -- leading the body to produce more heat as a reaction.

You should also avoid alcohol and caffeine as those are diuretics that flush water out of your system.

And don't forget to drink plenty of water.
