LENOX TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - A man riding his bike in northern Macomb County was killed early Thursday morning when he was hit by a car.

The Macomb County Sheriff's Department says 25-year old Lawton Monroe, of Casco Township, was riding on County Line Road near 27 Mile in Lenox Township just after 5 a.m. when he was struck by a 2005 Mercury Sable.

Monroe was declared dead at the scene.

The driver, a 28-year-old Columbus man, stopped after the collision, called 911 and was questioned by police.

Chris Petersen, who lives in the area of the crash, says traffic moves too fast on a road with very few street lights.

"This is the second one in this spot in two years, the second person that's got hit. One was on a motorcycle and the other was on a bicycle," she said. "Every mile there's a streetlight and it's dark, dark, dark. It's very hard to see."

Police say both Monroe and the vehicle were traveling southbound when the crash happened. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor at this time, according to police.

The crash remains under investigation.
