DETROIT (WWJ) -- The Detroit fire and police departments have launched investigations after a body was found in a burning car on the city's northwest side.

Officials say crews were called to the scene around 11:30 a.m. Monday when it was reported the fire was spreading from a car to a home on Oakfield Street, near the Southfield Freeway (M-39) and Eight Mile Road.

Once crews doused the fire, a firefighter discovered a body inside the vehicle.

Officials say they were not immediately able to determine if the body was a male or female, as it was "burnt beyond recognition."

It is unclear how much damage was done to the house, and investigators say it is still unclear if foul play was involved.
