Brighton Man Accused Of 'Feverishly' Shaking Girlfriend's Baby

BRIGHTON (WWJ) - A toddler is recovering after what police believe is a case of child abuse.

The alleged abuse happened Monday at an apartment in Brighton. Police say the mother's live-in boyfriend pushed the 1-year-old boy on the floor three times, causing him to strike his head.

The child was also "shaken feverishly" by the boyfriend, according to police.

Child Protective Services reported the case to police on Tuesday after the child was transferred to Children’s Hospital from St. Joseph’s Woodland on a ventilator with injuries consistent with shaken baby syndrome. The child's current condition is unknown.

The boyfriend and the mother are cooperating with police.

Police say the mother, who is pregnant with the boyfriend’s child, was in the same room when the incident occurred. However, no formal charges have been filed on her at this time.

The boyfriend is currently lodged at the Livingston County Jail awaiting arraignment.

The case remains under investigation.
