BEDFORD TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - Two teenagers are dead after they were struck by a vehicle while walking along a Monroe County road on the Fourth of July.

The crash happened just after 12:30 p.m. Wednesday on Sterns Road, near Hidden Valley Drive, in Bedford Township.

Police say a 49-year-old man from Erie was driving a 2009 F-150 eastbound on Sterns when he traveled off the roadway and struck two teens, identified as 13-year-old Justin Haun and 16-year-old Alyssa Haun, who were walking on a lawn.

The siblings were taken to ProMedica Toledo Hospital where both died from their injuries.

The driver of the pickup truck wasn't injured. Two passengers inside the truck, a 32-year-old Toledo woman and an unknown man, fled the crash scene.

Investigators say alcohol, speed or texting do not appear to be factors in the crash.

A report will be sent to the Monroe County Prosecutor's Office which will determine if any charges will be filed.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has any other information is asked to contact police at 734-240-7715.
