Brothers Charged In Michigan Man's 2017 Overdose Death

December 12, 2018 - 9:30 am

MONROE (WWJ/AP) - Two brothers have been indicted in the drug-related death of a man in southeastern Michigan.

Harry Wise, 36, and James Wise, 29, of Oregon, Ohio, were charged in Detroit federal court with conspiracy and drug distribution causing death. They're accused of supplying opioids that led to a 33-year-old man's fatal overdose in Monroe in 2017. Not-guilty pleas were entered Tuesday.

"It is a priority of DEA to identify and investigate those who distribute drugs that result in overdose and death," DEA Special Agent in Charge Plancon said in a statement. "The charges ... should make it clear to all drug dealers that they will face consequences, for the harm that they inflict on the user and on society."

Prosecutors want to keep the brothers in custody. The online court docket says a detention hearing will resume on Dec. 20.
