(WWJ) Reports say a Texas private-equity firm is gearing up to buy 17 former Art Van locations in Michigan and reopen them as Loves Furniture - named for the owner, John Love.

Possible re-openings could be the Warren, Livonia, Royal Oak and Taylor locations.

Word is another firm is also interested in buying some former Art Van stores outside of Michigan.

Art Van furniture was founded in Metro Detroit in 1959. The family sold the company in 2017. The new owner filed for bankruptcy in early March, and broke hearts when they closed all the locations suddenly, putting thousands of people out of work and leaving people who had ordered furniture feeling left in the lurch.

"We know customers will have questions regarding customer service policies and many other important topics. Our operational teams are working diligently to finalize and document those details, and we will communicate to customers as soon as possible," the company said in a statement when the doors closed on March 19.

Under the deal with Loves the locations that could reopen would represent about 20% of the old Art Van stores, and former employees could be rehired.
