Can You Guess Michiganders' #1 Favorite Holiday Film?

December 24, 2018 - 5:15 am

(WWJ) The holidays are here, which means folks around the globe are screening their favorite festive flicks.

Everyone has a number one pick; whether it's an 80s classic, a 90s crackup or an action-packed blockbuster hit. But did you know the most popular Christmas movie varies from state-to-state?

The team at set out to identify which holiday movies are the most popular and where, highlighting the three most popular holiday movies in the U.S., which ended up being a list of quotable classics that inspire some serious nostalgia.

Michigan's number one favorite came in at number two nationwide: It's Bill Murray's 1988 hit "Scrooged" -- a zany and at times touching (then-)modern take on Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol." (If you haven't seen it yet, you can stream it on Starz, or rent it on iTunes, YouTube or Amazon Prime Video).

Naturally, "Home Alone" made the list (with the sequel unsurprisingly taking New York), as did cautionary BB-gun-control allegory "A Christmas Story." Holiday o.g. "A Christmas Carol," the king of remakes, rounds out the usual suspects.

Not quite as expected: Three states chose creepy-sexy-cruel Tom Cruise/Nicole Kidman thriller "Eyes Wide Shut" as their Christmas favorite.
