Car, Truck Of The Year Revealed At The Detroit Auto Show

The Genesis G70 may have caught consumers by surprise

(WWJ) Drum roll please ... the North American car and truck of the year were announced at the Detroit auto show Monday.

It was good news, and bad news for the local automakers.

The Ram 1500 took home top honors in the truck division, while the Hyundai Genesis G70 won top car of the  year. The Hyundai Kona won as the top SUV.

This year's car finalists were the Hyundai Genesis G70, Honda Insight and Volvo S60/V60. Truck finalists are the Chevrolet Silverado 1500, GMC Sierra 1500 and the Ram 1500.

SUV finalists are the Acura RDX, Hyundai Kona/Kona EV and Jaguar I-Pace.

Last year's winners were the Honda Accord, Lincoln Navigator and the Volvo XC60.

About 55 automotive journalists serve as judges. Eligible vehicles must be new or substantially changed.

Organizers accept no advertising, though automakers try to capitalize on the marketing value of the awards, which are now in their 25th year.
