(WWJ) Take note, drivers. Multiple planned closures on I-94 could gum up your weekend travel plans, beginning Friday night.

Here's what you need to know (all information from MDOT):

  • Westbound I-94 will be completely closed (all lanes) between I-96 and Livernois Ave. The shutdown is scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, with the freeway set to reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 21. The detour for this closure is eastbound I-96 to westbound Michigan Ave. to westbound I-94.
  • Near Detroit Metro Airport, I-94 will have only one lane open in both directions (eastbound and westbound) between Telegraph Rd. and I-275. This begins at 8 p.m. Friday, with all lanes expected to reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 21. To get around it, your best bet would to take I-275 to the Eureka Rd exit to the airport. This is part of a $12 million project will fix bridges, concrete and the median wall, among other things, according to MDOT. People headed to the airport are urged to give themselves some extra time.
  • In Detroit, I-94 in both directions will have only one lane open between Conner St. and and Gratiot Ave. from 5 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday.
  • In Macomb County, eastbound I-94 will have only one lane open from 8 Mile Rd. to I-696. All on and off-ramps will be closed through this stretch from 8 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday.

Remember, the above listed projects and all planned roadwork in metro Detroit is dependent on the weather, and scheduled may change.
