It's a question many people have been asking...will there ever be free samples at Costco again?

While the popular samples disappeared from Costco stores as one of the many preventative measures for shopping during the coronavirus pandemic, that's about to change.

The company has announced that customers will once again get to enjoy free samples by mid-June. According to Costco Chief Financial Officer Richard Galanti, the rollout will be slow and you won't be able to just "pick up a sample with your fingers."

The return of samples isn't good news for hungry shoppers, it's also good news for jobs.

Biz Journals.com reported that in a May 21 post on the CDS website, President Don Doyanyos confirmed the company’s return to Seattle-based Costco is planned for later this month, and that means employees who were laid off due to the pandemic will get their jobs back.

Costco sampling duties are handled by an independent company, Club Demonstration Services (CDS). And CDS laid off thousands of workers as the Covid-19 outbreak shuttered businesses and erased sampling.

In a May 21 post on the CDS website, President Don Doyanyos said Costco locations in states where restaurants have reopened are in consideration for the first phase, and that sampling will “start up slowly” with a “very limited” number of stations.
