DETROIT (WWJ) -- An investigation is ongoing and traffic remains blocked after a three-car crash on eastbound I-96 involving a boat Sunday afternoon.

Michigan State Police say around 2 p.m. a driver failed to stop in time, colliding with a boat on a trailer along I-96 near the Davison Avenue exit in Detroit. The boat became dislodged from the trailer and fell onto another vehicle.

The driver of the first vehicle sustained serious injuries, while the driver inside the vehicle that the boat fell on suffered minor injuries. Both were transported to a nearby hospital. The driver of the boat and trailer was not injured.

MSP says alcohol is believed to have played a role in the crash, on behalf of the at-fault driver.

As of 4:30 p.m., all lanes remain blocked, with traffic getting by on the right shoulder at the Oakman Boulevard overpass.

Police are still investigating.
