DETROIT (WWJ) -- Extra crews have been called to the scene of a raging house fire on Detroit's east side to relieve firefighters battling not only a blaze, but high heat and humidity.

Officials say a fire broke out at a home on Seyburn Street on Monday afternoon, and crews have had an even more difficult time battling the blaze with high temperatures and humidity.

Deputy Fire Chief Dave Fornell says they are taking extra precaution because of the heat.

“You have to have rest and recuperation and you have to hydrate," Fornell said. "The house was just blowing fire out of every window on the first floor when they pulled up.”

Fornell says extra crews were brought in to provide relief for the firefighters.

“These poor folks are just knocked out," Fornell said. "It’s hard enough to battle the flames and smoke, but when you have to battle the heat too, it just takes an awful lot out of you.”
