ROSEVILLE (WWJ) - A woman is hospitalized and a man is in custody following a crash in Roseville Monday morning.

According to police, a 25-year-old St. Clair Shores man who fled a traffic stop caused the wreck, at around 3:40 a.m. at Common Rd. near Normal, west of Gratiot Ave.

The man was pulled over for an equipment violation, police said, but when the officer got out and approached the 2006 white Chevy Impala, the driver sped away.

A short distance away, on southbound Gratiot at 12 Mile, the Impala crashed into a silver 2000 Mercury Sable, driven by a 49-year-old St. Clair Shores woman.

She was taken by EMS to a local hospital where police said she was listed in critical condition.

Southbound Gratiot was closed at 12 Mile for the crash investigation, with police asking drivers to avoid the area. The roadway remained closed as of 10 a.m.
