D-DOT Bus Destroyed By Fire On I-94

June 11, 2018 - 5:09 pm

DETROIT (WWJ) -- The Detroit Fire Department and the Detroit Department of Transportation investigators are looking into the cause of a fire that completely destroyed a D-DOT bus this afternoon.

It happened on I-94 eastbound after I-96 when the bus was being shuttled from a location back to the terminal. The fire department says the driver smelled smoke, pulled over and noticed that the entire back end of the bus was on fire.

The driver safely got out, and there were no passengers on the bus.

The Detroit Fire Department was able to put out the flames --  but the entire bus was burnt to a crisp and about 60 to 100 gallons of fuel spilled onto the roads.

The Hazmat Team is on the scene trying to keep that fuel from running into the sewers.

It is not clear what caused the fire. D-DOT and fire officials are investigating.
