MEARS, Mich. (WWJ) - A Dearborn man has died while tubing on a west Michigan lake despite brave efforts to save him, according to authorities.

The Oceana County Sheriff's Department said in a news release that 42-year old Rabih Othman fell off a tube while boating in Silver Lake, Sunday afternoon.

Othman was seen struggling and was pulled from the water by other boaters -- including a 19-year-old Hart, Michigan man who held him up until a jet ski pulling a rescue float was able to get to them.

Despite the young man's "very brave" efforts, the sheriff's office said, resuscitation attempted failed and Othman was pronounced dead a short time later at Hackley Lakeshore Hospital in nearby Shelby.

Authorities said Othman was not wearing a life jacket.
