Investigation Underway After Detroit Motorcycle Club Member Found Dead

May 21, 2019 - 3:41 pm

DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit police are investigating the death of a motorcycle club member on the city's west side.

Police, who were on scene for several hours Tuesday, said the man was found unresponsive by another member at around 10:30 a.m. inside the Detroit Gentlemen Motorcycle Club on Grand River Ave. near Hubbell.

While the name of the man, believed to be in his 70s, was not immediately released, shocked and saddened members told WWJ Newsradio 950's Stephanie Davis he was a longtime member who went by the biker name “Lifer.”

It's still unclear how he died.

"Although there are reports that there was a gunshot wound," Davis reported, "police are also telling me that they are looking at whether into whether this was a suicide."

The Wayne County Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy.

Also in question, Davis reported, is a burning motorcycle found behind the club Tuesday. It's not yet clear if the bike belonged to Lifer, was connected in any way to his death, or if the timing was just a coincidence.

Police are not releasing any further details as the investigation continues.
