DETROIT (WWJ) -- A man is in custody after stealing a Detroit Police car Monday evening.

Police confirmed to WWJ that a police officer went into a Boost Mobile store in the 7400 block of Gratiot Avenue near East Warren Avenue on the city's east side. She left her cruiser running with the key fob to the push-to-start vehicle in her pocket.

Authorities say a black male got into the car and drove away.

Several officers responded to the call and found the suspect in the cruiser near Van Dyke and Kercheval, about two miles from the Boost Mobile location. They were able to corner the cruiser and get the suspect out and into custody.

Police tell WWJ nobody was injured and the car was not damaged.

Authorities said the Boost Mobile store is a project Green Light location but the cameras outside were not working during the incident.
