DETROIT (WWJ) -- Detroit police are asking for tips in a hit-and-run crash on the city's east side that left a man dead last weekend.

Police say a 34-year-old man was walking in the middle of Morang Avenue around 9:30 p.m. on Feb. 23 when he was struck by a vehicle.

A suspect driving an unknown red vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed southbound on Morang from 7 Mile Road when the victim was hit.

The victim, whose identity has not been released, was taken to a hospital and was listed in critical condition, but he later succumbed to his injuries.

Police released surveillance video from a nearby home that shows the suspect vehicle driving by. It is unclear whether the video was captured before or after the victim was hit.

They are asking anyone who recognizes the vehicle or has any information about the incident to contact Detroit Police Department Fatal Squad Unit at 313-596-2260. Calls can also be made to CRIMESTOPPERS at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
