DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit has finally fallen off the top of the list of most bed bug-infested cities in the United States.

According to pet control service Terminix, Detroit ranks #13 on its 2018 list of America's most bed bug-infested cities.

Last year Detroit ranked #3, and in 2016 the Motor City was at the very top of the list. Since then, the city has crawled its way out of the top 10.

This year, Cleveland takes the #1 spot, followed by Philadelphia and Los Angeles. Ohio has the most cities on the list, taking four of the top ten spots. Texas, Tennessee and Pennsylvania each had two cities make the list.

Terminix based its rankings on the number of services rendered in each city from October 1, 2017 to September 30, 2018.

Bed bugs are most active at night, so infestations can be difficult to spot. The bloodsucking insects are oval-shaped, wingless and reddish-brown. In lieu of spotting the pests themselves, you can look for signs of an infestation, which can include shed bed bug skins and blood spots on mattresses or sheets.
