DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit Medical Center (DMC) and Olympia Development announcing the development of a $65 million sports medicine facility to provide specialized services for professional, collegiate and amateur athletes -- all part of Phase 2 of development in the District Detroit.

The five-story, 127,000-square-foot building will replace a current surface parking lot and bring new, Class A office space, street-level retail and sports rehab, medical research and sports simulation services.
The DMC Sports Medicine Institute will occupy approximately 50,000 square feet of the new facility, and the remaining 60,000 square feet of office space will be available for office or complimentary medical tenants looking to be a part of the city’s remarkable resurgence and The District Detroit. The facility will also bring even more vibrancy to the area, which also includes Little Caesars Arena and the soon-to-open Mike Ilitch School of Business at Wayne State University.

DMC has been the official healthcare provider for both the Detroit Red Wings and the Detroit Tigers for more than 10 years.

Former Red Wings' Chris Draper telling WWJ's Vickie Thomas about his repeat trips to the hospital.

"Unfortunately, the latter stages of my career I spent a lot of time at DMC- you know Dr. Tony Colucci and Dr. Doug Plagens they kind of kept me together probably the last three or four years of my career," said Draper.
