DETROIT (WWJ) - A River Rouge man has been charged with impersonating a police officer.

According to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office, 23-year-old Blake Purvis drove a black SUV with police inspired decals and wore what looked like a police uniform.

Prosecutors say he used flashing lights on the vehcile, and even tried to make a phony traffic stop on the Lodge Freeway near the I-94. The woman was suspicious, however, refused to pull over, kept driving and immediately reported the incident to the police.

An investigation led Detroit police to Purvis.

He is charged with one count of impersonating a peace officer, a misdemeanor that carries up to a year in jail, as well as possession of flashing lights, a 90-day misdemeanor.

An arraignment was scheduled for Thursday in 36th District Court.
