FLAT ROCK (WWJ) - Authorities say a 57-year-old Flat Rock man shot his sister and brother-in-law to death, then fled the scene in the couple's vehicle.

Thomas Lane is expected to be arraigned Monday on several charges, including two counts of first-degree premeditated murder, in the deaths of his sister Catherine Markowski, 59, and brother-in-law Mark Harris, 56.

According to police, Lane had been living at his sister's home at the Deerfield Estates mobile home park, in the 24800 block of Chinook Court for several months prior to the shooting.

Police were called to the home around 1:20 p.m. on March 31 and found the lifeless bodies of Markowski and Harris. According to reports, the couple's grandson found their bodies and then went to a neighbor's home for help. Both had been shot to death, and their vehicle was missing from the scene. At  5:35 p.m. that same day, police found Lane driving the victims’ car on Benson Street in Trenton. At that point, he was taken into custody. Police also recovered a handgun from the vehicle.

In addition to murder, Lane is charged with fleeing and eluding second-degree, carrying a concealed weapon, felon in possession of a firearm, and three counts of felony firearm second offense.
