Driver Accused Of Intentionally Hitting 2 People Outside Royal Oak Bar

February 23, 2019 - 5:50 pm

ROYAL OAK (WWJ) - Police are trying to identify a man who allegedly ran down two people with his SUV after an altercation at a Royal Oak bar.

The incident unfolded just before 2 a.m. Saturday, when officers were flagged down about a disorderly group of people in the area of Fifth and Main streets. Officers arrived at the scene and discovered two people had been struck by a vehicle.

Officers further determined a fight between two groups had occurred earlier inside the basement of the Jolly Pumpkin, on Main Street. Security removed the two groups from the bar, and a man from one of the groups got into a gold or tan Buick Rendezvous.

Witnesses told police the vehicle appeared to intentionally strike the female victim, turn, and then strike the male victim. The vehicle struck two signs and a parked vehicle before backing over the male victim again. The driver then fled the area.

Both victims were transported to Beaumont Hospital where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The driver remains at large. He's described as a white male in his 20s, 5'8" tall and 170 pounds with a beard and dark hair. He was last seen wearing a red hooded sweatshirt with a gray jacket. Police say his vehicle has significant front-end damage, a shattered driver's side window, and a broken passenger side rear taillight.

Anyone who can identify the suspect or has any other information is asked to contact police at 248-246-3456.
