Driver Sought In Hit-And-Run Death Of Man Walking On Southfield Freeway

DETROIT (WWJ) - Michigan State Police are searching for a driver wanted in a fatal hit-and-run crash in Detroit over the weekend.

Troopers were called to the northbound side of the Southfield Freeway (M-38) near Fenkell just before 3:30 a.m. Sunday. When they arrived, they found the body of a 49-year-old man who had been walking on the freeway when he was struck by an SUV. 

Police said the driver exited onto McNichols from M-39 following the crash, and then and continued east.

The suspect vehicle, seen in the background of a video released by police on Tuesday, is described as a dark gray metallic 2017 or newer Cadillac XT5 (example at left). It will have likely extensive damage that will require repair.

There is no description available of the driver.
