Troopers were called to the northbound side of the Southfield Freeway (M-38) near Fenkell just before 3:30 a.m. Sunday. When they arrived, they found the body of a 49-year-old man who had been walking on the freeway when he was struck by an SUV.

Police said the driver exited onto McNichols from M-39 following the crash, and then and continued east.

The suspect vehicle, seen in the background of a video released by police on Tuesday, is described as a dark gray metallic 2017 or newer Cadillac XT5 (example at left). It will have likely extensive damage that will require repair.

There is no description available of the driver.

Anyone with information is asked to call the MSP Metro South Post at 734-287-5000.

The victim's name was not immediately released.
