Drone Takes Viewers On Flight Through Hall Road Golden Ring [VIDEO]

(WWJ) Ever since it was erected, an enormous, expensive adornment has been drawing attention in Sterling Heights.

Now the curious can take a tour through the Hall Road Golden Ring, via drone footage on YouTube.

The video, posted early this month, is facetiously titled, "Flying Through The Golden Butthole" -- a reference to an alternate name for the art, which has gained traction via a Facebook fan page. Boasting a nice aerial view of the area, it was closing in on 13,000 views as of lunchtime Wednesday.

The jokes and jabs have been flying since the 35-foot structure went up in the M-59/Hall Road median in January, as a part of a $1.8 million landscape improvement project, branding the stretch the "Golden Corridor."

While some residents have complained about the price tag (around $339,350 total for the ring and signs), lighthearted jabs have been the norm, with jokes referencing Lord of the Rings, Sonic the Hedgehog, Stargate and other themes too crass to mention here.

Sterling Heights Mayor Michael Taylor has said he was prepared to take some ribbing about the ring, but he stands by it as a part of bigger plans for the city's future. (Read more here).
