MILFORD (WWJ) - A Michigan State Police trooper recognized for saving a family of ducks.

State police received a number of calls from people about the duck family that was stranded on the shoulder of I-96 in Milford.

A video from MSP shows Trooper William Cooper find the ducks and block traffic with his car as he escorts the mother and her ducklings across the freeway and into the grass.

First Lt. Michael Shaw says this isn't the first time they've had to do something like this ...

"We do see a lot of animals and deer in that area - or hit by cars - it's also a traffic hazzard for people who drive through there - as far as animals crossing the road, you know, like a major freeway like that; a mother duck and that many ducklings. It's usually not a good outcome."

The closure lasted less than a minute.
